ALL ABOUT THE EYES

MAKEUP HOW-TOS USING COLOR AND TEXTURE

As winter continues to loom, brighten up darker days by highlighting the window to your soul: Your eyes. Makeup texture and color can have have a major impact on how the eyes look and how their features are either highlighted or hidden, says Janell Geason, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Makeup.

“Light and dark will either accentuate or hide features, so where you place it is key for looking your best,” Janell says. “Be respectful of what colors you choose, along with textures, as this will create your perfect eye shape.”

Here, Janell provides tips for making your eyes even more beautiful:

LARGE EYES

To make eyes appear smaller, use dark, matte shadows at the crease and lids as this will help recede your eyes. Dark detracts lights and makes things appear smaller.

SMALL EYES
On the flipside, to accentuate eyes and make them appear
larger, use satin or sheeny textures and lighter shadows in the creases and in the inner eye area. The shimmer finish is tactile and the light color is reflective and helps to open the area up, which will result big, bright eyes

CLOSE SET-EYES
To widen the distance between your eyes go for the lighter hues in shadow, and again a sheeny finish, which will provide the light reflective quality. This will help create that desired shape.

WIDE SET EYES
If you have eyes that are wide-set apart, the rule being if you can fit a third eye in between, then you can make them appear closer with the darker shadows in a matte finish. Again the dark recedes and will bring the eyes in toward the nose. This will also help to give a narrowing effect to your nose.
